rayo lejano is the recording project of Dany Farray, a Dominican-American singer-songwriter and producer whose music lives in the space between two languages and decades of sound.  Raised bilingual, Farray grew up absorbing music from both sides of a cultural divide, and rather than choosing one lane, rayo lejano was built to embrace all sides of that shape.

The sound draws from influences all across the musical spectrum, from 60s rock and psychedelia, to the soft rock of the 70s, the new wave of the 80s, and even modern indie rock and house music.  "I associate moments and feelings with sound and try to encapsulate those emotions with what I make," says Farray. It's music made by someone fluent in contrast: analog warmth against modern production, English against Spanish, melancholy against groove, and angst over lush tropical rhythms.

Farray introduced the project with the 2021 single "If I Fell," a song defined by the feeling of longing over a lush, energetic, slightly psychedelic sound.  Every release since has encapsulated what he's wanted to share:  an insight into his world and the stories that it holds.

Since then, Farray has released two studio albums under the project:  "Swimming in Air," which Farray describes as "the encapsulation of the college experience," combining lyrics about growing up and coming of age in a time where one learns of their own independence with dreamy, psychedelic, and at times gritty rhythms.  The other album: "String Lights Over City Streets" takes on a more romantic and yearning theme, describing the trials and tribulations of love, loss and desperation over a sound strongly influenced by the romantic soft rock and baroque pop sounds of the 60s and 70s.

At its core, rayo lejano is a solo act with a wide-open sonic palette -- proof that a restless set of influences can add up into something singular rather than scattered.
